Fly Fishing Arkansas

Kick’s Fly Fishing Arkansas, LLC, was established in 2017, and is owned and operated by Brian Kick right here in downtown Cotter, Arkansas. We pride ourselves on running a professional, world class, knowledgeable business.

If you’re a first-timer who wants to get into the sport of fly fishing or a novice of sort we have you covered. Our gear and equipment are some of the best available today. You will fish from a locally designed and manufactured 20 foot jet boat that is created to suit the demands of our rivers.  While there are many fisheries located within a 100 mile radius, we focus mainly on the White River and Norfork River tailwaters.

Our mission is to provide a great experience for our guests catching big trout and creating memories for a lifetime. If you are interested in visiting our area, please consider fishing with us!

The White & Norfork Rivers

World Class Rivers

If you have heard of the White and Norfork rivers, but aren’t familiar, let us share a little insight with you. Both the White and Norfork are considered some of the top tailwaters in the country. Water flows change daily based on flood control and power demand, so guides and anglers must be agile and amenable to change. The rivers are mostly known for their large population of big brown trout, making them attractions for anglers world wide.

In preparing for your trip to either river we commonly use 6-weight rods for basic nymphing and top water approaches. However, anglers also use rods as large as 8-weight with 7 inch-per-second sinking lines for presenting larger streamer patterns. When fishing our rivers, guides consider 4 basic seasons. In the early spring of April/May we have a great Caddisfly hatch where anglers will target fish using topwater and various emerger patterns. In the early summer months of May/June we have a very good Mayfly Sulfur hatch. Again, using a variety of topwater and emerger patterns works best. As we move from late summer to early fall, July through September, we focus a lot of our attention on bigger foam bug patterns such as Hopper and Cicada patterns to target the larger browns on top. Winter months are the spawning time frame and fishing can still be really good with subsurface patterns.

White River

The White River has its water supplied by Bull Shoals Lake thru a hydropower dam with a minimum flow output of 700 CFS to a maximum output of approximately 26,000 CFS. This tailwater holds a healthy population of trout within the first 50 miles of the dam. It’s not uncommon to fish as much as 20 miles in a day.

Norfork River

The Norfork tailwater has its water supplied by Norfork Lake thru a hydropower dam with a minimum flow output of 700 CFS to a maximum output of approximately 7,200 CFS. This tailwater is much smaller in size, both in length and width, compared to the White. From Norfork Dam to the confluence of the White River, the Norfork tailwater is only 4.8 miles long. What is unique about the Norfork is its variety of trout species. Both rivers are challenging in their own way so this provides anglers an opportunity to utilize and develop different tactics.
